Fishing Report for Lake Toho

This fishing report includes several species of fish on Lake Toho. The monthly fishing report by Captain Brent Kirkendall will focus on the species on this lake. This report will written about Crappie, and Bass. This report is available on the Lakeland Ledger to read.

Crappie

We will begin this fishing report with specks. The specks are biting good on minnows around the state marked brush piles and other piles around the lake. Specks are also known as crappie, perch and moonfish. In this fishing report I recommend using Seaguar Invizx fluorocarbon. Hook sizes 2, 4 and 6 are the most common for crappie fishing. The best rig to use when fishing for crappie is a slip-float rig. The piles by Over Street and at South Port have been especially good. The bluegill and shellcracker bite has been “awesome” on live worms just outside of Gobbits Cove and the area outside Richardson’s Fish Camp.

Bass

The fishing report for bass; up to 8 pounds bass have been caught along the outside edges of the Kissimmee grass. The boat trails have also been producing while flipping and worming. The best color has been black and grape this week if you are going to use artificial baits. I prefer Zoom worms the best. The bass bite has also been great on live golden shinners. The best place to purchase live bait is Richardson’s Fish Camp located right on the lake. I recommend that you use Berkley Big Game 20 pound test while using a 3/0 Eagle Claw circle hook. For best results, free-line the shinner until you see the bobber disappear. I also recommend using the Texas rig to secure your hook on the line. The live shinner bait has been best down by Briar’s Cove in 8 foot of water. Also, the state brush piles have been producing large amount of bass. Another good place to fish is right outside of Lake Toho marina; there is a 20 foot hole that has been holding bass.
